Reaching New Creative Heights in ELT

In this talk I intend to line up a maremagnum of ideas to create the optimum environment for creativity to flourish. Keywords such as brainstorming, motivation, guidance, flexibility, originality, risk-taking, problem-solving and acquiring knowledge will be travelling companions all throguhout this interactive stroll in the sunshine of creativity. I will prove how you can naturally develop your language skills creatively. Albert Einstein said "Creativity is more important than knowledge" so Let's be creative!

Pronunciation Games for Spanish Speakers

Pronunciation lessons can be both fun and focussed. In this session, we will look at 8 features of English pronunciation which are of particular relevance for Spanish speaking learners of English. These will include vowels, spelling of vowels, consonants, clusters, word stress, stress patterns, tonic syllables and joined up speech. Each feature will be explained, contrasted with Spanish and demonstrated with example games.

Creative Juices

Creativity is an important skill for school, and for life! All too often we get so wrapped up in the school syllabus and ‘official exams’ that we forgot how vital it is to keep creative juices flowing in class. In this session we will discuss why creativity is important and look at a series of fun and easy activities to develop creative skills.

Priming for Listening

Before we get our students to listen, we prime them for what they are about to hear. However, the types of tasks we use tend to use are similar to (if not exactly the same as) those we use to prepare students before they read a text. Such activities aren’t necessarily inappropriate, but surely we could introduce a little variety and get our students to do tasks which take account of the differences between the two skills? In this practical session, we’ll briefly examine the classroom listening context, and I’ll present a number of pre-listening tasks which can be easily adapted for use with different audio, both authentic and non-authentic texts.

Innovation and Gaming: The world of Technological Revolution & Games:Young Enterpreneurs

As a workshop ntroduction we are going to see some useful innovations and meet young (very young) inspiring entrepreneurs. Regarding innovative and official exams we are going to see how IELTS and APTIS tests provide genuine English language knowledge scores. The first one enables students to study and work abroad and the second one is used as a level test for Spanish universities, companies as well as teaching institutions. Aptis allows you to evaluate one or all of the language skills independently of each other and it is computer based.

Cooperating through Ipads

In this workshop I aim at exploring how the use of tablets can contribute to cooperative language learning. This way of teaching involves more than simply working together and it brings many positive effects to students, such as high motivation, face-to-face interaction, positive interdependence or individual accountability. We will see how students have developed language, interpersonal and social skills through the use of the iPad in class and several Apps.
