READING & WRITING CAN BE FUN. MICHEL LORD

IIt is often said that the students of the 21st century have lost the habit of reading and writing. However, this habit hasn’t been lost, but has just changed – text messages, chats, blogs, social networks… these are the texts which these students are now reading. As teachers of these students, our goal is to broaden their horizons and encourage them to enjoy reading and writing texts beyond the world of Facebook and Whatsapp. In this workshop, we shall consider ways of making reading and writing communicative , motivating and fun.

CLIL, TBL & LEARNING STYLES IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM: BUILDING LANGUAGE SKILLS NATURALLY CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING -CLIL- MAITE MOLINA.

It’s dual-focused education where attention is given to the topic as well as the language. When we integrate Task Based Learning –TBL- with CLIL we are enabling our students to use the language as both object and instrument to communicate.

Students build their language skills because they need to use the language, not because they are instructed to. Engaged in the task proposed by the teacher, students are exposed to a greater array of language than in a traditional English class, while hands on activities immerse in a collaborative environment, facilitate situations where true communication among the students is happening naturally.

HANDS ON LEARNING. NINA LAUDER

Children are curious and full of energy, and they internalise information best when they are actively involved in meaningful activities. In this session we will look at different aspects of hands-on learning for Social Sciences and Natural Sciences and will discuss activities, games, projects and group work tasks which help children learn through discovery. We will examine CLIL activities for 1st, 3rd and 5th years and see how language and subjects can be integrated to make successful and enjoyable lessons.

In this information age a holistic curriculum is no longer a luxury but a necessity. By building language skills, developing selfconfidence,

adult life. This session will suggest some fun and exciting ways we can incorporate these concepts into our young learners classes.
